Governors Honor Seniors, Fall To Sevier County On Senior Night

William Blount honored its seniors before tipoff and then ran into a deep, balanced Sevier County team, falling 63-26 at home. The Governors hung tough in a slow-paced first quarter, trading buckets and even briefly tying the game, but the Lady Bears turned up the ball pressure midway through the second and pulled away with a long scoring run that carried into the second half.
Cassie Sweat carried the offense for William Blount, scoring 10 points and coming up with a couple of key steals that led to fast-break buckets early on. Izzy Kid added six points and Caitlyn Husband chipped in five, including a corner three in the third quarter. Kate Morton and Taylor Rule each found ways to contribute on the glass as Sevier County's pressure defense forced a stretch of empty possessions for the Governors.
Sevier County, the district's top seed and mostly underclassmen, got double-digit scoring from four different players and used its depth to wear down William Blount as the game went on. The Governors will see the Lady Bears again soon, as the two teams are matched up in the district tournament next week at Sevier County. William Blount and every team in the district is already locked into a region berth, so there's still basketball left to play for the Lady Govs this season.
