Governors Fall Short On The Road At Maryville
Gov Nation Network · February 20, 2026
William Blount dropped a District 2-4A tournament game at Maryville, falling behind early and never catching up in a 53-35 loss. The Governors trailed 12-6 after the first quarter and 27-21 at the half before Maryville pulled away in the third, outscoring William Blount to lead 40-28 heading into the fourth.
Maryville's size and depth showed down the stretch, with a third-quarter three-pointer keeping the home team comfortably ahead. William Blount kept fighting behind Taylor Rule, who knocked down a three late to try to spark a run, but the deficit proved too much to overcome by the final horn.
Kate Horton and Taylor Rule, both recognized as second-team all-district performers before the game, led the Governors' effort throughout. Cassie Sweat and Caitlyn Husband also saw heavy minutes as William Blount tried to slow down a talented Maryville lineup that included first-team all-district picks Zoe Harrison and Manny Hall.
The loss ends William Blount's run in the district tournament for this season.
