Governors Fall Just Short In Late Rally Against Jefferson County
Gov Nation Network · March 24, 2026
William Blount dropped its home opener to Jefferson County 7-6 after erasing a early four-run deficit but coming up just short in the final innings. The Patriots scored early and built the lead into the middle innings before the Govs battled back with a string of two-out hits.
Jefferson County put up a four-spot in the second inning, aided by a couple of shallow singles and an infield chopper that got through, pushing the score to 5-2. William Blount answered with production of its own โ Ty Goins drove in a run to tie it early, and a Gavin Wilson triple later brought home another. Tyson Moncivaiz added a run-scoring single up the middle in the second to cut the deficit to one before Jefferson County pulled away again with runs in the third and fifth to lead 7-4.
The Govs would not go quietly. In the bottom of the sixth, with two on and two out, Karson Hard lined a two-run single into right-center to make it 7-6, giving William Blount a real chance in the late innings. Moncivaiz stood out throughout the game at the plate and in center field, and Hard's clutch hit kept the Govs within striking distance to the end. Noah Hardin also reached with a hard-hit ball in the seventh, putting the tying run aboard, but the Govs could not push another run across.
William Blount will be back in action with a busy stretch coming up, including a doubleheader on Friday.
