Governors Rally Late Behind Hard's Grand Slam to Beat Lakeway
Gov Nation Network · March 28, 2026
William Blount opened the season series with Lakeway Christian Academy with a back-and-forth battle at Charlie Puleo Field, coming from behind to win 7-5. Braxton Green worked the mound early and kept Lakeway off the board through two innings while the Governors built a 3-0 lead in the first two frames on a Mark Sackerman sacrifice fly and a pair of runs driven in by Ty Goins and Drew Campbell.
Lakeway answered with a four-run third inning, keyed by a two-run double, to take a 4-3 lead, then added another run in the fourth to go up 5-3. Green battled through traffic most of the night before handing things off, and Nolan Maples came on to shut the door with a scoreless sixth and a game-ending double play in the seventh.
The game turned in the bottom of the sixth. With the bases loaded, Carson Hard drove a pitch over the right-field wall for a grand slam, putting William Blount ahead 7-5. Tyson Moncivaiz and Sackerman each reached base to set up the big swing, and Jackson Maurer and Lucas Crisp also had solid at-bats throughout the night that kept pressure on Lakeway's pitching.
William Blount was scheduled to play Harden Valley later that night in tournament play, with a busy week ahead including games against Maryville and a home tournament.
