Governors Fall To Maryville In Tight District Battle
Gov Nation Network · March 31, 2026
William Blount lost to Maryville 7-2 at Charlie Puleo Field in a game that stayed close for most of the night. Maryville scored the first run in the second inning after a close call at third base, but the Governors answered right back in the bottom half to make it 2-1. A two-run homer to left field in the fifth put Maryville up 4-1, and the Rebels added a bigger cushion in the sixth with a string of singles and a sacrifice fly that pushed the score to 7-2.
William Blount kept scrapping the whole way. Carson Hard turned in several sharp defensive plays at shortstop that kept innings short, and a bases-loaded walk in the fifth trimmed the deficit to 4-2. Jake Farmer worked through traffic on the mound for most of the night, and Nolan Maples came on in relief and shut the door for an inning.
At the plate, Jackson Mau, Lucas Crisp and Ty Goens each had at-bats that put pressure on Maryville's pitching, and Gavin Wilson drew a key walk to load the bases in the fifth. The Governors matched Maryville's hit total for stretches of the game but couldn't turn enough of them into runs.
William Blount is back in action Wednesday night at 7:15.
