Governors Fall 6-3 To Macon County In Back And Forth Battle

William Blount dropped a close one to Macon County on Friday night, falling 6-3 in a game that swung several times over the final innings. Both teams traded the lead through the middle innings before the Tigers pulled away late.
The Governors led 3-1 after three innings on a run-scoring hit from Jackson Maurer, but Macon County answered with two runs in the top of the fourth to tie it at 3-3. The Tigers then took the lead for good in the fifth and put the game away with a two-run double in the sixth to make it 6-3.
Nolan Maples did a little bit of everything, coming around to score a run, stealing a base, and then taking over on the mound in relief where he worked out of a bases-loaded jam to keep the Govs within striking distance. Braxton Green started on the hill and battled through traffic most of his outing. Defensively, Gavin Wilson and Karson Hard each made plays to help keep the game close, and the Governors turned a clean double play late to end a Macon County threat. William Blount could not solve the Tigers' pitching in the final at-bat, going down on a called third strike to end it.
The Governors were set to play South-Doyle at 2:30 and Kingston at 7:15 the following day.
