Carpenters Outlast Union Grove In Futures Game At Puleo Field
Gov Nation Network · April 8, 2026
Carpenters topped Union Grove 13-7 in the middle school futures game played at Charlie Puleo Field. The game swung on a handful of big innings, with each side stringing together two-out rallies that turned close innings into runaway ones.
Carpenters broke it open early, riding a five-run first inning built on timely contact and Union Grove miscues in the field. Union Grove answered right back with a five-run rally of its own in the top of the second to tie the game, showing the back-and-forth nature of the afternoon. From there Carpenters pulled away for good, adding two runs in the third, three more in the fourth, and a big five-run fifth inning to push the lead to 13-6 before Union Grove got a run back in the sixth.
Both defenses had their share of trouble turning routine plays into outs, and several innings featured wild pitches and passed balls that pushed runners into scoring position. Carpenters made the most of those chances, while Union Grove's bats stayed alive late but couldn't match the middle-inning surge.
The two teams' varsity counterparts were set to be in action the next day, with the Governors slated to host a county matchup at 2 p.m.
