Governors Walk Off Jefferson County 4-3 In Ten Innings

William Blount outlasted Jefferson County 4-3 in a ten-inning battle at Charlie Puleo Field. The Governors trailed most of the night before rallying twice in the late innings to force extras, then finished it off in the bottom of the tenth.
Jefferson County scored first when Caleb Franklin hit a solo homer to make it 2-1, and the Patriots later pushed a run home on a sacrifice fly to lead 3-1. William Blount answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth to cut it to 3-2, then loaded the bases in the seventh and tied it 3-3 on a two-run single by Jackson Maurer. Carson Hard added a diving catch in center in the tenth to keep the game even.
Mason Mikles started on the mound for the Governors and held Jefferson County to one hit through five strong innings, with Drew Campbell coming on in relief to close it out. Maurer reached base multiple times and drove in the tying run, while Carson Hard collected two hits and made the defensive play of the night. In the bottom of the tenth, with the bases loaded, Gavin Wilson lined a single into left field to score the winning run and send the Governors home with a 4-3 win.
No word yet on the next matchup, though the team is expected to host Kings Academy for senior night later this week.
